Birthstones

"Historians think that the first written record [of birthstones] comes from the book of Exodus in the Old Testament. Here, the breastplate of the Hebrews' high priest is described as having twelve specific gems, one for each of Israel's twelve tribes.

Over time, gems with special colors became associated with the twelve signs of the zodiac, which correspond roughly with the months of the year. Each sign has its own name and its own characteristics. Those born under a particular sign are thought by some people to be influenced by that sign and to share common traits. Rx Remedies

Coca-Cola cure for rust ... Forget those expensive rust removers. Just saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done.

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer ... If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409 . Insects drop to the ground instantly.

Smart splinter remover...just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Hunt's tomato paste boil cure ....cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

Recipe

Copycat Entenmann`s Pound Cake

I have a real treat for everyone today.
One of my neighbors is from the original Entenmann’s family. Since the business was sold years ago he was unable to give me a copy of the “official” recipe, but I tried this one yesterday and trust me, it tastes just like the real thing!

Serves: 8 Pound Cake
Ready In
: 1-2 hours

Ingredients:
1/2 pound Butter
2 cups Powdered sugar
3 large Eggs
1 2/3 cup All Purpose Flour
1 tablespoon vanilla extract or lemon

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325F.
Spray an 8-1/2″ Pyrex loaf dish with Pam.
Cream butter with sugar on high speed of mixer for 5 minutes.
Add 1 egg and then a little flour, continue beating for 2 minutes.
Add 2nd egg and half of remaining flour and beat 2 minutes.
Add 3rd egg, rest of flour and extract, beating 2 minutes.

Spread batter evenly in prepared loaf dish.
Bake 65 minutes or until tester inserted into center comes out clean.
Cool in baking dish on wire rack 30 minutes.
Remove from dish. Slice 1/2″ thick.

Headline News

I have decided to start selling my original art done in acrylics on canvas.  It has been a hard decision for me as each painting is a personal accomplishment and has deep meaning to me.  I hope you will like them and if you buy a piece, I hope you will treasure it as much as I do.

Noting New

Sorry, but I have nothing new this month.  I was busy last month and it ended in sickness.  I am feeling much better now but didn't do any new designs.  The ones pictured are some of my favorites from the past.  I look forward to being more creative this month.  Have a very happy new year.

Remember an American Soldier today

No matter how you feel about the war, we all can support our soldiers.   Let them know we are thinking about them and praying for them for free!

Go to the web site at www.letssaythanks.com. You can pick out a thank you card and the Xerox Corporation will print it and send it to a soldier who is currently serving in Iraq.  You can’t pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.  It is FREE and it only takes a second.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?
